The Caspian Sea — Black Sea corridor: a new route from Asia to Europe that bypasses Russia
An agreement on the Caspian Sea — Black Sea international transport corridor was planned for 2025. It is meant to link Central Asia and Europe while bypassing Russia. The initiators are Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania.
The route
- Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) — the starting point on the Caspian Sea.
- Baku (Azerbaijan) — the port after crossing the Caspian.
- Poti and Batumi (Georgia) — transit hubs on the Black Sea.
- Constanța (Romania) — the end point, from where cargo moves on across Europe.
What has been discussed
Representatives of the four countries held a video conference on increasing freight volumes, working with the EU and other partners, and using digital technology to improve service.
The new corridor should strengthen trade between Central Asia and Europe and give carriers another route — one that does not depend on Russian territory.
